Sight Words
Sight words are that students will often see in their reading and are words that cannot be phonetically sounded out. We practice our sight words so that students can automatically recognize those words while they are reading. Students should be able to read, write, and use their sight words in a sentence. Your child will begin the District 80 sight word program in Kindergarten and it will continue through third grade. This year, our goal is for your child to master list 1-5.
Here is the District 80 Sight Word List
Please remember to help your child practice their sight words at home. Your child will be tested bi-weekly and results will be sent home in your child's Friday Folder. That way you can work especially hard on the words your child still needs to practice.
How can you help your child practice sight words?
Make Flashcards and play a memory game
Find sight words in books that you read together
Write them on a white board
Make the words out of Play dough, letter tiles, or magnet letters
Type them up
Rainbow write them
